Plant a Tree
ACCA/NParks Plant a Tree Project

By Irene Ho, Head of Asia Diplomatic Council

As part of ACCA’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13 - Climate Action), ACCA Singapore has partnered with National Parks Board’s (NParks) OneMillionTrees Movement and the Garden City Fund, to allow our member and business community to play a bigger, more important role in conserving and enhancing the splendid greenery that surrounds us.

Headed by the ACCA Community and Social Impact (CSI) Interest Group and supported by the ACCA Singapore office, the movement raised a total of $16,540 from generous donations by ACCA members, employers and friends of ACCA.

Special acknowledgement goes to Coinhako, a local crypto company, as the key supporter and underwriter of the event. Coinhako knew about this initiative through its ACCA member employee and decided to support it in a big way. With its generous support, the total collections had even exceeded the initial target of $15,000.

The project cumulated in a tree planting event on Friday, 16 September along Upper Serangoon View. 34 supporters of the event, including ACCA volunteers from the CSI group, ACCA staff members, our CAANZ friends and the team from Coinhako showed up with gloves in hand to plant a total of 55 trees.

“The members had a fruitful day getting their hands dirtied and experiencing first-hand the joy and significance of doing a small part for our environment.”

Irene Ho FCCA, Lead of the ACCA Community and Social Impact Group

"This is a meaningful event to remind ourselves that we all need to do our part to protect the environment.”

Jeffrey Li, ACCA, Finance Manager at Coinhako

About the ACCA Community and Social Impact Interest Group

This Community & Social Impact Sub-Committee Group was formed in 2020 within our Sub-Committee and Interest Groups (SCIGs) in ACCA Singapore. We aim to connect members through social-related initiatives, to contribute to the community as a force for public good, and to create social impact through Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

ACCA’s Commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out a shared vision to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030.

In 2020, ACCA is responding to the UN’s call for a decade of action to deliver the global goals by setting out a number of specific commitments.

We will leverage the power of our community to contribute to the global goals. Our commitments are a work in progress: we’ll unite around these to ensure we play our part in delivering a thriving, sustainable future for the profession and for the world, and we’ll report our shared progress each year in ACCA’s annual integrated report.

We recognise the importance of all 17 interconnected SDGs. And collectively, ACCA and its community can make our most significant contribution towards the achievement of nine of them.
