Ambassador of the People’s Republic China

The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Shi Mingde, is a proud member of the Diplomatic Council's Board of Presidents. He was named Ambassador of the Year 2015 by the Diplomatic Magazine.

Ambassador Shi Mingde was born in 1954 in Shanghai and has a close connection to Europe. From 1972 to 1975 he studied in the German Democratic Republic. He served as a member of the Chinese Embassy there from 1976 to 1981 and as the 2. Secretary from 1986 to 1990. In 1990 he became vice head of mission of the Western Europe division of the Chinese foreign ministry and in 1993 he was promoted to be embassy counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Bonn. In 1997 he became embassy counsellor for the planning division and vice head of division for Western Europe of the Chinese foreign ministry, in 2002 he was appointed minister counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Berlin and in 2010 he became the general director of the central office for foreign affairs at the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. From 2010 to 2012 Ambassador Shi Mingde served as the Chinese ambassador in Vienna. He became the Chinese ambassador to Germany in 2012.
