Remember the Nanjing Massacre

Speech by Mr. Lucien Tjon, Diplomatic Council Chairman International Relations and Chairman Stichting Culturele en Economische Betrekkingen China-Nederland.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you very much for inviting me to speak here today.

I have visited serval times the Memorial Hall for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre in remembrance of the 300 ́000 Chinese citizen killed by the Japanese invaders in the recent years. From these visits, I realized how important it is for not just memory this history about the Nanjing Massacre in China, but also for the history in Europe and all over the world.

Also, the world must know and should never forget what happened here in Nanjing. There is one major goal for my organization in mind: to bring and keep peace to the world. I feel in full consistence that it is my ultimate task to tell the history and meaning of Nanjing Massacre not just in Nanjing, China but also to Asia and all over the world.

Our history will never forget, and while to look back in the history, we must also look forward. Today, we need to learn from the past that peace is never just given, and easily end over. We must pass the message to our future generations about the past so that they understand how dreadful war is and to motivate them to fight for peace. Let us do all effort to keep peace by teach the young people to memory the history generations after generations.

We must remember; without peace we cannot guarantee for our lives. There is no future without peace. Therefore, let us focus on the future development to make sure there will never be a Massacre like this neither here in Nanjing nor anywhere else.

Thank you.
