New Cooperation with the Centre for International Relations

The Diplomatic Council and the Centre for International Relations Foundation (CIR) have entered into a strategic partnership. Both are independent, non-governmental think tanks. Since 2009, CIR has been ranked among the top think tanks in Central and Eastern Europe in the University of Pennsylvania’s research The Leading Public Policy Research Organizations in the World. The Diplomatic Council has been granted UN Consultative Status by the United Nations in recognition of its broad spectrum of global activities, ranging from policy analysis and strategic consulting to educational initiatives, capacity-building, international dialogue and a wide array of social and humanitarian programmes.

Main goals of CIR are to deepen Polish decision-makers’ knowledge of the EU and the world, to popularise knowledge about Poland among opinion-leading circles abroad, and to analyse the international situation. CIR has become an influential forum for foreign policy analysis and debate, involving leading politicians, diplomats, civil servants, local government officials, businessmen, journalists, students and representatives of other NGOs.

The Centre for International Relations Foundation is therefore an ideal partner for the Diplomatic Council, whose statements, analyses, events and reports, particularly those using the global reach of the United Nations, but also, for example, its book publications, attract considerable attention worldwide.

Broad Range of Activities

The CIR activities to date have emphasized issues relating to NATO and international security, the different aspects of European integration as well as the position of Poland in Europe, transatlantic relations, a broadly defined Eastern policy, migration, climate and energy, as well as the bilateral and multilateral elements of Polish foreign policy. DC activities range from diplomacy and technology to economic affairs and peace research.

“The Centre for International Relations is an excellent addition to our expanding network of academic partners and think tanks,” says Hang Nguyen, Secretary General of the Diplomatic Council. She extends her thanks to Jochen M. Richter, Chairman of the Global Security Forum within the Diplomatic Council, who initiated this connection with Poland.
