As part of its UN Consultative Status, the Diplomatic Council is contributing to a new Global Risk Report of the United Nations. The study comprises 28 global risks, which were selected and assessed as part of a comprehensive consultation process between the international community, civil society organizations such as the Diplomatic Council and other stakeholders.
The following risks are taken into consideration (in order to minimize misinterpretation):
Large-scale War, Large-scale Pollution, Collapse of Multilateral Institutions, Geopolitical Tensions, Collapse of Social Cohesion, Widespread Debt Crisis, Mass Movement of People, Geoengineering Disasters, Inaction on Climate Change, Erosion of State Authority, Negative Outcomes of AI and Frontier Technologies, Rise in Inequalities, Proliferation of Non- State Actors (incl. criminal and terrorist groups), Misinformation and Disinformation, Collapse in the Rule of Law and Massive Violations of Human Rights, Economic Fragmentation, Rapid Decline in Biodiversity, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Breakdown in Cybersecurity, New Pandemic, Shortages of Natural Resources, Global Financial Crisis, Large-scale Natural Hazard Risks, Technology-driven Power Concentration, Sustained Global Economic Stagnation, Supply Chain Collapse, Space-based Event.
The report is not only concerned with the question of the probability of which risks occurring, but also within which time periods. The UN distinguishes between "currently", one to seven years, eight to 15 years, 16 to 25 years or simply after 2050. As soon as there are further resolutions from the report, the Diplomatic Council will inform its members.
